Nokia to mark down the prices of its smart phones

The company also vows to take Symbian to a new level and forecasts for itself and the industry for the year 2010
At the Capital Markets Day event held on 2nd December '09, the manufacturer of Nokia mobile phones ,Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo said that the company has plans of ‘taking Symbian to a new level’.
Kallasvuo also vowed that considering the ever rising demand for smart phones in the global market, the company is pondering to ebb the prices of the gadgets. At the event, the Nokia representative also expressed the key targets set by it and forecasted for itself and the industry for the year 2010.
Kallasvuo said: ‘In 2010, we will drive user experience improvements and the progress we make will take the Symbian user interface to a new level.
‘As an operating system, Symbian has reach and flexibility like no other platform, and we have measures in place to push smartphones down to new price points globally, while growing margins. I see great opportunity for Nokia to capture new growth in our industry, by creating what we expect to be the world's biggest platform for services on the mobile.’
Timo Ihamuotila, Nokia CFO added: ‘Going into 2010, the overall mobile devices market is stabilizing and it is growing more in the areas where Nokia has competitive advantages.
‘We believe that by executing on the operational priorities we have set, Nokia will be competitive in both mobile phones and smartphones and will improve its value share.’
The forecasts made by Nokia for the year 2010 included: a target of lower average selling price (ASP) erosion of its mobile devices in 2010, compared with recent years; mobile device volumes to be up by 10% compared with 2009; and increasing its mobile device value market share slightly in 2010, compared with 2009.
The manufacturer has also declared its target of 300 million active users for its services by the end of year 2011.
