Broadband Usage Policy

What is a 'Fair Usage Policy'?

  • This is a policy which is meant to ensure the quality of the Broadband services being provided. The primary activity undertaken by this policy is to manage the traffic especially during the periods when internet is being used the most. Hence, users normally come across this policy even though the ISP that they have gone for has promised them unlimited usage levels of internet.

What are “Peak Times"?
  • The world all over uses internet with millions of users being glued to the screens while browsing websites. The time when the number of these users is the maximum is normally referred by the term: “Peak Time”. Peak times however, are subject to the ISPs being used. But most of the peak times normally fall within the period of 6pm to 11pm.

What is a “Heavy” or “Excessive” User?
  • People who have the habit of frequently downloading files which are huge in terms of their size. These individuals normally use P2P software and end up clogging the bandwidth. They, therefore, decrease the connection speed for all those who are using the same connection. However if you are a 'Heavy' user, then you can always take a look at our special heavy user broadband page. This page has lots of suitable broadband deal options for you.

How much is too much?
  • Everybody checks emails daily and surfs through websites. Even a simple download here and there, is not capable enough to posing any hassles between you and your ISP. 'Too Much' takes place when one gets into the practice of downloading files which have their size usually between 1 to 3 GB, for example a movie. It is advisable for a restructuring, you should not become a member of the class of 'excessive' users by avoiding any downloads or even uploads especially when the traffic is excessively high.
How is usage limited?
  • When the rate of downloading or uploading becomes excessively high and that too during peak hours, the ISPs notify their users telling them to stop doing it. In case the user takes this unofficial warning in a casual manner and continues on, then the first thing that takes place is the connection speed becoming slower and slower. The second thing which takes place in extreme circumstances is the outright termination of the internet connection.
