O2 Broadband

O2 came into existence when the BT group combined its various business wings for the purpose of building up its position with shareholders. Earlier this service was known to all as BT Cellnet. In the year 2001, it was renamed as O2. Now it is named as Telefonica O2 and tends to have the highest customer base in the UK. None other provider in UK is having such a wide customer base.

It invented its own broadband brand in October 2007. This broadband offered discounts to those subscribers who are costumers of O2 mobile phone or pay-as-you-go contract. Thus, it is an ideal service provider for those people who are willing to use a high speed broadband along with an unlimited download capacity. The service puts forward their packages in a clear way and users surely derive benefit from these packages.

The main requirements are :

  1. A BT home phone line.

  2. An Ethernet port

  3. O2 broadband carries O2 wireless box with it. But in case you are not interested to go for wireless, then you go for Ethernet cables.

  4. Windows 2000 or higher, Mac customers require Apple Mac OS 10.

I got my o2 broadband up and running within 3 days of ordering it. I had placed my order on the 17th of March, got my router on the 18th and it was up and running on the 20th, something I can't say about BT. Being on the premium package I get between 10-11 meg sync. Customer service is UK based and always helpful. The few problems I had were sorted out within 10mins. For being an o2 paygo customer, I got an additional £5 off. Plus they don't throttle the speed at all.

O2 is my first broadband provider and I found it a great value for money, especially if you’re an exisiting O2 pay and go customer. To keep the discounted rate going you just need to top up £10 every three months. Their method consists of checking users speed for the first ten days after connection and finding out the fastest possible signal to send from. This results in a very good Internet speed. I'm happy that I turned to O2 service provider after being connected with Screaming Net/World Online/Tiscali. I had changed my service provider last week. I was knowing about the speed of my texts quite OK with the earlier provider but when I went online with O2 service provider before three days, I came to know the actual scenario. My download speed gets increased. It gets changed from a stable 1.2meg to a solid speed of 3.5meg. Since i am connected with O2 mobile I'll be giving less than a tenner as soon the 3 free months completed once. I was charged £15 per month by Tiscali for a completely poor service. Hence, I am quite fine being connected with O2.
